Mobile Bidders Spend $700K at Saffronart’s Fall Auction

Online Indian art auctioneer Saffronart concluded their September 9-10 autumn auction with a $3.7 million tally. This fell between the $3.4 million low pre-sale estimate and $4.5 million high pre-sale estimate.
Seventy-three of 95 lots found buyers, achieving a 77% sell-thru rate for modern and contemporary Indian artworks.
The company reported that buyers using the company’s new mobile technology — permitting bidding via cell phones — executed bids worth $700,000.
The top lot was Akbar Padamsee’s “Untitled” selling for $391,000. Other strong performers included M.F. Husain, Manjit Bawa and F.N. Souza.
